Glimmer
A seasonal light artwork for The Old Church
Following the success of GLOW in 2018, Output Arts were once again asked to produce an outdoor light installation for The Old Church arts centre in Stoke Newington in 2019.
Glimmer again references the tradition of the evergreen tree, a symbol of life sustained through the cold Winter months. Deliberately naïve, the simple shapes evoke childlike excitement. The animated sequence of lighting depicts a tree with twinkling lights suddenly consumed by fire, then covered up by snow that melts to reveal a regrown tree.
The artwork touches on climate concerns and the hope that we can act to avert disaster through the simple act of planting trees. Glimmer is made with materials and equipment recycled from Output Arts’ previous projects and will itself go on to be reconfigured into new artworks.
