Constellations
Winter community parade event in Stoke Newington
Constellations was an event, conceived for See You In Stokey, the Stoke Newington business association, celebrating the beginning of the winter season.
Working in our own backyard, we ran a series of workshops with local businesses, in local primary schools, with the local Guides, and open workshops with the wider community, making willow and paper star lanterns.
Output Arts then produced an outdoor event with See You In Stokey, closing Stoke Newington Church Street, primary school children who had taken part in the workshops were invited to parade along the street with their lit lanterns, led by a Samba band and the Mayor of Hackney. The event was attended by over 1000 local people.
In addition to organising the event, we expanded on our Twinkle installation at The Old Church, making new stars to display on St Paul's West Hackney church on the other side of Stoke Newington and decorating a giant fir tree outside the Stoke Newington fire station with stars decorated by children at the nearby SEN school and one of our giant stars at the top.
The event was funded by Hackney Council.
